2010 Golf Tournament Results
Raindrops keep falling on my head! --That was the way it felt on May 20 when we had our Annual Gilbert Callaway Golf Tournament at Twin Creeks Golf Club in Allen. After playing around 9 holes, the bottom dropped out and we got flooded. About an hour later the sun came out and we were able to finish the tournament just before another thunderstorm dropped in.
Everyone got wet, but the attitudes remained positive and we ended on a happy note. It was a great day in spite of the rain delay. (The Byron Nelson Tournament didn't get finished due to a rain delay, so we did better than they did--and probably had more fun, too.)
As usual, some did better than others. Four teams tied at 10 under par. After conducting a score card playoff(comparing scores on the lowest handicapped holes), Twin Creeks Pro Rich Richeson declared that the winning team was Bill Smith, Charles Whitley, Bill Lewis and Gary Melton. Second place went to Charlie Little, Scott Langham, Bryan Ballard and Rick Ballard, Jr. Third place went to Tommy Shumate, Bill Salmon, Warren Gafford and Larry Vowell. J. Showalter, Dan Prather, Bill Smith and John Roach were left out in the cold in the playoff, but they also had a good round.
Closest to the pin shots were awarded to Rick Ballard, Jr. (Number 2), Gary Stoops (Number 6), Norris Mantooth (Number 12) and Emerson Porter (Number 16). The long drive was hit by Dan Prather, and the straightest drive was hit by Gary Hammond. Karl Stewart hit the closest sand shot.
A great meal was enjoyed by all, and many guys left with some golf items in their hands from a drawing that was held.
At this point it appears that through the tournament we raised around $3500 for missions. Thanks to the hole sponsors, those who bought mulligans, those who bought tickets for the drawing, and our golfers. All had a part in accomplishing this goal.
We will do it again next year in May. (I will try to make sure there is no conflict with the Byron Nelson Tournament.)
Our next regular golf outing will be September 23 at Westridge Golf Course in McKinney. Put the date on your calendar and plan to join us.
Thanks, golfers. We appreciate your partnership with us!
